Helsinki, Finland-based Imatran Voima Oy (IVO) hopes to become a major electric utility company in Europe with its union with gas producer Neste. IVO-Neste has a combined annual earnings of $11.6 bil and more than 18,000 employees, with international operations in Southeast Asia and Russia.

Norweb revisited: joint acquisition attempt offers lessons in utility bidding, partnering

Article Abstract:

The failed attempt to acquire British electric utility Norweb plc by two Texas companies Central and South West Corp. and Houston Industries Energy provides a lesson on how complex such deals can be. Difficult management, personnel, legal and financial matters had to be resolved.

Hostile takeovers: a part of industry's bumpy road ahead?

Article Abstract:

Mergers and acquisitions in the electric power industry also include hostile takeovers even though friendly mergers predominate. Hostile takeovers rarely succeed as only one out of 21 offers between 1960 and 1990 flourished.
