Wood still lowest-cost transmission structure

Article Abstract:

Recent studies conducted by several electric utilities revealed that wood is still the most inexpensive material for building transmission line structures. The studies show that wooden transmission structures cost 55% lower than their steel counterparts.

Keep poles straight by using proper backfill

Article Abstract:

Utilization of proper backfill material helps in installing straight transmission poles. An ideal backfill material has to be inexpensive and can be immediately purchased. In addition, the material can be easily placed in the hole and support the pole.

How flow duration curves define transmission usage

Flow duration curves (FDC) represent the combined distribution of electric power flows and are useful in reporting transmission capacity, availability and limitations. FDCs can help make complicated transmission measurement easier.
