Bispectrum estimation: a digital signal processing framework

Article Abstract:

Bispectrum estimation (BE), a digital signal processing tool, is presented for use in situations where more common power spectrum estimation techniques are inadequate. This approach is presented to introduce engineers to the use of BE techniques for digital signal processing and to stimulate research into other potential applications of this approach. Three specific signal processing applications of BE are presented: non-minimum-phase estimation and deconvolution; time-delay estimation; and detection of quadratic phase coupling.

Cumulants: a powerful tool in signal processing

Article Abstract:

Output cumulants are a useful signal processing tool in identifying the impulse response of a finite-dimensional, linear, time-invariant system to which the cumulant is related in a simple closed-form solution when input is assumed to be non-Gaussian, stationary, identically distributed, and independent. One-dimensional processing of the output cumulants can then identify non-minimum-phase (NMP) systems. Other signal processing applications also benefit from the expression.

Generation of Serial CPMFSK Signal

Article Abstract:

An M-ary CPFSK generator of arbitrary modulation index is based around an Intel 8085 microprocessor development system. Signaling sinusoid quadrant samples are stored in ROM, retrieved by the processor, and passed through a digital-to-analog convertor and a low-pass filter for the CPMFSK signal. The hardware arrangement for the serial generator is illustrated.
