Power electronic circuit topology

Article Abstract:

The topology of power electronic converter circuits consist of semiconductor switches plus inductive and capacitive elements for temporary storage or filtering between supplies and loads to effect and smooth transformation with minimum losses and in a cost-effective manner. Prime factors in selecting a converter topology include: type of conversion, nature of voltage and current supplies and loads, nature of capacitance and inductance filters, switching losses, and control and protection circuits. Converter circuits can be classified by type of switching employed; (commutation) or type of conversion performed: ac-dc, rectifiers and inverters; ac-ac, voltage controllers or rectifiers; dc-dc, choppers; and dc-ac, rectifiers. Power semiconductor switches use varied diode, thyristor, and transistor devices to operate in one of five directional-controlling modes.

Realization of multiplierless coherent detection scheme in digital domain

Article Abstract:

A new technique is developed for the demodulation of the quadrature-multiplexed, composite color component signals R-Y and B-Y without the use of digital multipliers. This process is proposed as the functional core of a digital NTSC decoder which will provide a digital composite-component interface. The coherent detection (demodulation) process is determined to be realizable in real-time in a hardware implementation. Applications are targeted at processing of composite video signals in the digital domain.
