901 Cherry Street

Article Abstract:

Gap Inc's new headquarters facility in San Bruno, CA, features a design that offers lots of natural lighting and fresh air. The building, which features a two-story atrium, has been built with 7-foot scooped-light monitors to reflect natural sunlight coming in from the largely glass exterior walls. In addition to a heating, ventilation and airconditioning (HVAC) system that gives efficient air supply, the interior design of the "901 Cherry Street" building was designed in such a way that it will create an outdoor effect.

Airport escalates savings

Article Abstract:

The escalators in Hawaii's Honolulu International Airport were supplied by a solid-state motor controller to detect load drops and adjust its energy to 80% in order to optimize its electrical conversion. Without the motor controller, the escalators' motors wasted electrical energy and heat whenever loads were less than 80%. Tests conducted on the electrical output of the escalators indicated that the controller lowered daily kilowatt consumption for the down escalator by 27% and 29% for the up escalator.
