A new slant on fishbones

Article Abstract:

The fishbone diagram can be enhanced as a quality tool by combining it with the five-why method. Integrating the five-why approach with the fishbone diagram eliminates the complexity of a diagram and results in clear conclusions. The five-why method analyzes surface explanations to identify a root cause while the fishbone diagram improves benchmarking. A user-friendly and presentation-ready fishbone diagram also results in quick and safe changeovers done by highly trained and harmonious teams.
