Achema showcases future of the CPI

Article Abstract:

Achema 2000, which was held in the Frankfurt Fair Ground in Germany, was attended by over 4,145 exhibitors from 48 countries. The convention showcased the latest technology and equipment for the chemical process industries and featured a conference program that covered over 1,000 subjects. One of the most popular was a plenary lecture on microreactor technology, a relatively new concept which is finding a solid footing in the industry. Another hot topic was the automation and control of drying operations.

Material control on developing-world projects

Article Abstract:

The establishment of new chemical-process industries facilities in the developing world, particularly South America, the Middle East, Africa and parts of Asia, necessitates coping with conditions and ground rules that are different from those of the industrialized world. Materials management entails a material control system that incorporates emerging technology, utilizes leadtime and required-on-site data and forestall problems.

SPC for continuous processes

Article Abstract:

Exponential weighting is a statistical method that can be used to monitor continuous processes. The procedure can be integrated into a programmable logic controller for automatec operations. The method can be defined in functional terms as exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) or as exponentially weighted moving standard deviation (EWMSD). Both EWMA and EWMSD are useful tools for evaluating output and process parameters.
