Batteries

Article Abstract:

UK retail sales of dry cell batteries rose by a real 11% in 1991-94, but there was a slight fall between 1994 and 1995, to 417 million pounds sterling. In terms of volume, sales have varied by only 1% since the start of the 1990s, ranging between 460-465 million units. Own label batteries are becoming more popular, although the leading brands Ever Ready and Duracell still took a 62% share of the market value in 1995 and a 51% share by volume. The market is predicted to rise by a real 4% in 1996-2000, with growth being driven by the trend towards smaller and lighter packages.
