An economic approach to job shop performance analysis

Article Abstract:

The use of an economic measure in developing an optimal job shop operating policy is considered. Specifically, dynamic flowtime forecasts and a dynamic lateness feedback mechanism are employed to schedule cost-minimizing due dates based on job-specific cost factors. The approach allows the total costs and optimal utilization level for different dispatch rules to be computed, thus enabling the total profits associated with various dispatch rules to be evaluated.

Telecommunications in Greece: a study of production structure and natural monopoly issue

Article Abstract:

The question of whether Hellenic Telecom of Greece is a natural monopoly is addressed. Specifically, the production structure of the Greek telecommunications sector is examined and a natural monopoly test is applied to its cost function. The results, while not conclusive, suggest that the state monopoly ceased to have the attributes of a natural monopoly in the mid-1970s when it began to achieve 'higher output levels.'

An instrument for quality performance measurement

Article Abstract:

An instrument for quantifying the quality performance measurement level and quality performance results obtained by a firm through self-evaluation is introduced. It represents quality as a function of total quality offered, perceived quality and customer satisfaction, and quality costs. Its utilization by two manufacturers, Italy's Eaton Controls S.p.A. and Zanussi Elettrodomestici S.p.A., is also discussed.
