Article Abstract:

An organization can effectively improve itself by regularly coming out with employee attitude surveys and using such results as input to management planning. Employees value the qualitative benefits they derive from their work as much as the quantitative aspect. They appreciate the importance accorded to them by organizations. Surveys should function as the basic tool to show them that the organization cares and is focused on continuous improvement.

Performance appraisals and Deming: a misunderstanding?

Article Abstract:

W. Edwards Deming has advocated the abandonment of performance appraisals, saying that it causes the deterioration of quality. However, analysis reveals that his misgivings are essentially rooted in certain design flaws found in the management by objectives appraisal method. Once these flaws are neutralized andeliminated, performance appraisals can become useful tools in enhancing effortsaimed to improve quality.

Implementing Deming's fourth point

Article Abstract:

W. Edwards Deming believed that a process or product can only be improved if people learn the rules that govern such a process or product. According to Deming, the practice of awarding business should be based on decisions that take into account both quality and price. The trade-off between quality and cost is imperative if companies are to upgrade the quality of purchased products.
