Assessment time down 80%

Article Abstract:

Maintenance centers of the US Department of Defense (DOD) have been gravely affected by the decreased defense spending. As a result, the DOD has told the Joint Logistics Support Center to develop work groups that would focus on the DOD's various processes and assist those centers that are managed by the Marine Corps. Such a step would effectively reduce cycle times through automated scheduling and other routine processes and maximize the department's resources. The work group assigned in Barstow, CA, has already worked successfully by decreasing the assessment time of 1000 different items by as much as 80%. The implementation of the other work group, based in Albany, GA, is also underway.
