Down hill run

Article Abstract:

The 10 million pounds sterling Snowdome indoor ski slope is part of the 14 million pounds sterling Tamworth Island leisure complex in Tamworth, England. The building is the result of a joint venture between leisure facilities developer Leamore Group and Tamworth Borough Council. The Snowdrome features a 150 m run, with artificial snow generated via a system developed by Austrian company Prosnow International. An air temperature of 5-8 deg C is maintained by air handling units and other equipment installed by Exeway Air Conditioning. The 250,000 pounds sterling lighting contract was undertaken by Eurolec UK.

Green but not jaded: what makes a building green?

Article Abstract:

The De Montfort Unversity's Queens Building won first place at the 1995 Green Building of the Year Award. The award is backed by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, the Energy Efficiency Office, the Building Services Research and Information Association and the Royal Institute of British Architects. The building incorporates extensive windows allowing light to penetrate and the need for supplementary artificial lighting and CO2 emissions have been greatly reduced.

Sporran power: the Royal Bank of Scotland's Jersey headquarters in St Helier is becoming something of an architectural landmark on the island

Article Abstract:

The Royal Bank of Scotland on Jersey recently received a Civic Trust commendation and its lighting has also been highly commended. The building is lit with continuous a recessed Arena ceiling system by Thorn LIghting. The system is flexible and allows working areas to be reconfigured without alteration to lighting or switching arrangements, and better energy savings have been made compared to a fluorescent scheme.
