Associations draw up 21st century planning agenda

Article Abstract:

A consultation document produced by the ADC, AMA and ACC local government associations in the UK sets down plans for preparing the planning system for the 21st century. It highlights problems such as delays in plan-making and a lack of cross-sectoral working, and claims that these are preventing the planning system from being fully effective in improving the quality of people's lives. It calls for the creation of a national planning framework in place of the present system of PPGs.

An avenging angel of the Tory right...: Teresa Gorman believes the real 'desecrators of towns and cities are local authorities which operate outside planning constraints

Article Abstract:

Teresa Gorman MP sees herself as standing up for the rights of private householders, arguing that they should be allowed to alter their own buildings as they see fit. She feels that although planning is set out in guidance notes, their interpretation is left to individual planners. She believes that local authorities that operate outside planning constraints are the main desecrators of towns and cities.
