Burn the brownies: effective experimental design through statistical thinking

Article Abstract:

It is common to encounter unwillingness to understand and use planned experimentation. Many people appear to become frustrated by variation, and in these circumstances it is worthwhile drawing attention to the fact that statistical thinking is one of experimental design's basic elements. It is important to see experimentation as a series of interconnected processes, with statistical thinking being applied to experimentation. Industrial experimentation is much more successful when fuelled by statistical thinking.

Chicken soup for processes: understanding process variation is a prerequisite to using SPC

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the use of statistical process control (SPC) are discussed. It is vital to understand process variation, how to sample to identify that variation and how to use SPC to bring about a reduction in variation. SPC makes it possible to obtain process understanding to assist in process improvement.
