Communicating technical ideas persuasively

Article Abstract:

Engineers are encouraged to utilize communication techniques to effectively convey their technical ideas and persuade others to accept them. They are advised to establish rapport with their target audience to promote a sense of trust and conviction. They are also encouraged to present options related to their propositions to persuade their target audience to reflect on the positive attributes of the proposals. Moreover, engineers are urged to take into consideration factors that influence persuasion such as emotion response, audience response and human interaction.

Continuing education as part of effective risk management

Article Abstract:

Continuing education is necessary for engineers who are utilizing innovative technologies in designing and constructing new facilities. Engineers should be competent and confident in using new products and building systems in their work so that untoward incident will be prevented. Since failure to investigate new products and building systems entail risk of liability and blame, continuing education may provide necessary competence for engineers involved in the construction industry.

Article Abstract:

Engineers who want to practice entrepreneurship and own an engineering firm should know to engage in risk-taking activities, define the firm's mission, improve communication skills and client relations. Although entrepreneurship can be difficult, adequate skills and proper attitudes may help aspiring entrepreneurs to excel in such endeavor in life. In turn, entrepreneurship may yield profitable revenue and professional growth.
