Composites set new limits

Article Abstract:

A composite technology combines particulate and composite methods and novel chemical formulations to produce rolls of material, called 'Curon Roofing', to seal flat roofs, which cure in ultraviolet rays from sunlight to produce rain barriers of exceptional durability. The material is twice as strong in compression as conventional GRP and uses low cost manufacturing techniques and cheaper ingredients that require less resin.

CAD is key to low cost switched reluctance

Article Abstract:

An advanced modeling would enable a company to produce a range of switched reluctance motors that are cheaper, more efficient, quieter and delivers higher torque than standard induction motors. The switched reluctance motors use no rotors windings, magnets or brushes and are therefore potentially much cheaper to manufacture than other types.

Ingenuity wins the horse race

Article Abstract:

A small MRI machine, which applies the scanner to the appropriate part of a horse instead of putting the horse in a scanner, is custom developed for diagnosing problems in horses. This system includes algorithms that compensate for patient movement during scanning and is much less expensive than the regular scanner.
