Nano TiN stainless sets new limits

Article Abstract:

Technological developments in chromium strengthened stainless steel haveimproved high temperature performance. Research at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Knoxville, Tennessee has produced Modified 9 Chrome. It improves the life of stainless steel in creep and fatigue prone applications and withstands temperatures of 600 degrees centigrade. Howver, future devlopment of TiN strengthened steel could raise temperature limits further. Intended applications include steel for power station use.

Nano materials go for high tonnage

Article Abstract:

The research started in the Soviet defence programmes during the Cold war, which was later masked when former Soviet Union re-oriented themselves, is being re-financed and re-vitalized aimed at commercial markets. It is found by the UK government-sponsored mission that research into advanced nano-size materials in former Soviet Union, is transferred from laboratory scale projects into significant commercial high volume production.

Nano layers give toughest finish to tools

Article Abstract:

Low friction and extraordinary durability can be achieved by depositing multi-layers of nitrided materials onto steel. The lives of tools coated with micron thick layers is doubled by giving nano-layers treatment.
