Concepts and methods for a production integrated environmental protection

Article Abstract:

An environmentally oriented production management system that describes the relevant environmental and economical information along a product's life cycle and furnishes this information to the concerned business functions is proposed. The model thus supplies different business functions with tools that allow them to describe and assess the economical and environmental effects of their decisions. These different business functions interact with three types of relevant data models, namely, the anonymous material flow model, the life cycle model and the scheduled material flow model, for a production integrated environmental protection.

Working towards agile manufacturing in the UK industry

Article Abstract:

A conceptual model is proposed which will guide the best practice firms in the UK towards their goal of becoming agile manufacturing organizations. The model, which is based on a joint research, identifies key enablers or pillars that are vital in attaining agile manufacturing such as core competencies, rapid prototyping and change management. A survey of UK companies reveals that the laying down of foundations vital in attaining competitive market edge is already being undertaken by such firms.
