Coordinate sensors and signal conditioners

Article Abstract:

One of the primary considerations in quality mechanical measurement is selecting the right sensor to fit into the type of measurement desired. Sensors, such as thermocouples, convert mechanical property to an electrical value. However, sensors need signal-conditioning circuits to work when hooked into a measurement system such as a computer-controlled, electronic data-acquisition system. Resistance-temperature detectors and bonded-resistance strain gages are among the most popularly used sensors.

12 tips for better data acquisition

Article Abstract:

Data-acquisition systems have dramatically improved data collecting in recent years. However, the accuracy of collected data depends on the resolution of the data-acquisition board and the type of sensors. Users should check for wiring errors which can induce the input and output devices to change state. The data-acquisition system should be calibrated before use and regularly checked during service to ensure accurate measurements.

Get better calibrations

Article Abstract:

The effective utility of electronic measuring equipment can be maintained by following simple rules such as noting the accuracy of the instrument, keeping its measuring probes clean and ensuring ample contact during measurements. Other useful measures include minimizing mode changes and calibrations, getting appropriate software to automate measurement recordings and calibrations, and scheduling ample time for machine calibration.
