Understanding and using design of experiments

Article Abstract:

The design of experiments (DOE) approach has been in use since the 1920s and has since then evolved to become an important aspect of experimentation. However, not many companies use this approach because of lack of management support and lack of training courses in DOE. Furthermore, there is the belief that only statisticians are eligible to train in DOE. The increasing number of companies which recognize the importance of DOE are changing the perception on DOE. Several companies have started offering courses in DOE to train engineers and other industry practitioners.

TPM cuts equipment-related losses

Article Abstract:

Effective equipment management calls for the application of total productive maintenance (TPM). Many US companies engaged in process industries or which manufacture high-technology products have successfully adopted TPM. Through the application of TPM companies, can be certain of up to 70% reduction on unplanned downtime and can cut down on function and control irregularities. TPM effectively reduces equipment-related losses.

Establish a lasting registrar relationship

Article Abstract:

Part of ensuring long-term success in the manufacturing business is determining the right registrar for the company. Although non-accredited registrars are usually less-expensive than accredited ones, the latter must be preferred since they possess greater reliability and credibility. Registrars with adequate global presence and encouraging flexibility must further be prioritized.
