Corn-to-plastic technology wins honors
Article Abstract:
Cargill Dow LLC's breakthrough technology, NatureWorks PLA, was honored with the Technology-of-the-Year Award from the Dept of Energy's Office of Industrial Technologies. NatureWorks PLA is a natural-based polymer that can be used for common consumer items, such as clothing, cups and food containers. The technology used to create NatureWorks uses annually renewable resources, such as corn, rather than petroleum for its feedstock.

Cooperation on cleaning products

International Specialty Products (ISP) of Wayne, NJ, and Reilly Industries of Indianapolis, IN, have formed a partnership to manufacture and market pyridine-based polymers for laundry-care products. Under the terms of the deal, Reilly will become the exclusine worldwide supplier to ISP of pyridine-based polymers, while ISP will have worldwide rights too distribute these specialties to the laundry and cleaning markets.

Conductive polymers collaboration
Article Abstract:
Victrex of Greenvile, SC, has signed an agreement with Ballard Power Systems to develop and manufacture two proprietary conductive polymers for use in Ballard's automotive and compact-power fuel-cell products. The companies will collaborate on the development of the Victrex proprietary ionomer, which is a sulfonated polyetherketone. The agreement covers a joint development period of up to four years.
