Creating a sensor of achievement

Article Abstract:

A new method of detecting the presence of objects by monitoring its capacitance has been developed. The method requires that the electrical capacitance of the item being examined is charged up before being connected to a larger capacitor. The method can ignore leakage changes and can also cope with random interference by making measurements at different intervals. The output is then passed through a median filter digital signal processor. The method can be used for a number of automatically controlled tasks.

Drives gain riches from the deep. (motors and drives)

Article Abstract:

Electric motors will be able to power oil well drills thousands of feet below the sea bed with new technologies being developed. Developments to ancillary equipment include special internal anchors supporting cables within the centres of coiled steel tube. Hydraulic pressure drives a tapered titanium piston in each anchor clamp. Cale anchors that can be more easily removed will also need to be developed.
