Data acquisition: making the quality connection

Article Abstract:

Rapid acquisition and analysis of accurate data from the factory floor is a critical aspect in quality control. A wide variety of data-acquisition technologies which are capable of collecting raw information and transforming it into meaningful data are currently available on the market. GageTalker Corp. has developed network-based data collecting systems which allow immediate two-way communications between the collector and the server. A brief overview of other sophisticated systems is presented.

Benchmarking survey builds case for looking to others for TQM models

Article Abstract:

The American Productivity and Quality Center's International Benchmarking Clearinghouse conducted a survey to determine the extent to which benchmarking is being utilized by companies. The results indicated that benchmarkinghas become more popular as many companies began to realize its advantages. In addition, the survey revealed that the success of benchmarking is highly dependent on the company's knowledge of its own processes.
