The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance outlines the responsibilities of company directors to ensure the health and safety of employees. It is recommended by the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) to appoint a health and safety director who would ensure that the board is collectively is discharging its duties. The legal requirements that employers should ensure while discharging their duties are discussed. Health and safety offences are punishable.

Government of UK is planning to introduce a bill on corporate manslaughter, by which a company irrespective of size will be prosecuted if the employee dies due to the improper safety measures of the company. The contents of the policy and its effects on the companies are also discussed.

Safety first

Article Abstract:

The electrical contracting industry has launched a program called Zero Accident Potential in 2001 and since then the reportable accidents in the industry reduced by 28%. How some of the electrical contractors are maintaining workplace safety standards at a higher level, is discussed.
