Directed field speeds small valve rocker: a new solenoid valve uses novel design to achieve high reliability, fast operation and efficient electrical operation at low cost

Article Abstract:

A new range of micro pneumetic solenoid valves have been developed to provide 20 millisecond operating times and 100 million plus operations. Magnetic fields are directed to the ends of rocker arms by specially processed stainless steel plates, to make the valve open and close. The new design has only 18 components, completely eliminating rubbing surfaces and offering low current consumption with fast response.

Technology speeds toys for the boys

Article Abstract:

The next generation of electronic consumer products will have the flexibility to be updated via wires or through the airwaves. Philips Semiconductors is working on bringing these enhanced capabilities to products such as TVs, in-car systems and mobile phones, and is also trying to cut the time taken for such products to come to the market.

Printed heaters boil with power: a major advance in power-printed circuit technology is demonstrated in a widely-used domestic appliance

Article Abstract:

Consumer electronics manufacturer Russell Hobbs has introduced a new jug kettle fitted with a 3kW heater track that allows it boil water 30% faster than any other kettle. The Millenium kettle has an element printed on a thin, stainless steel disc. The developer of the Optimised Printed Element Technology is IST Laboratories.
