Does higher education practice what it teaches?: A study of total quality management processes in academia answers this question

Article Abstract:

There has been a move towards teaching total quality management (TQM) in postsecondary education institutions. A study identified four areas where TQM could be applied in higher education institutions, in the curriculum, in non-academic functions, in the administration of academic functions and in core learning processes. Results showed a widespread usage of TQM in business schools, but TQM use may only be partially implemented or in the early stages of development at many institutions.

Total quality requires serious training

Article Abstract:

Moving towards total quality (TQ) should be regarded as only one element of the overall training activities of any company. TQ training can present significant logistical and cost challenges. Furthermore, it can only be really successful if undertaken by enthusiastic individuals who are prepared to involve trainees in discussions and willing to listen to all views. Using experts offers a level of objectivity that is frequently not reached by a company's own trainers.
