Downloading the sky

Article Abstract:

The efforts of an international collaboration of astronomers and computer scientists are working together to built the world's biggest and best telescope known as the Virtual Observatory, or VO. The VO would allow astronomers, as well as students and the general public, to easily locate and download research data over the Internet.

Searching the sky: image-recognition software for astronomy pictures brings professional and amateur astronomers together

Article Abstract:

A web-based application that will be launched by Astrometry.net automatically determines which part of the sky that the image has captured. The application makes it easier for professional and amateur astronomers to collaborate by making their images searchable.
