Early SQC: a historical supplement

Article Abstract:

Current literature on the field of statistical quality control (SQC) appears to have excluded Bell Telephone Laboratories Inc.'s initiatives to apply the science of statistics to solutions for different quality control problems in its inspection unit late in 1925. Some of the program's biggest contributions included the first multiple applications for the world's first control chart, which was invented on May 16, 1924 by a member of the firm's technical staff, and the concepts of average outgoing quality limit or AOQL, minimum inspection per lot, multiple sampling and sampling for continuous processes.
