Incineration alternative to be commercialized this year

Article Abstract:

Molten Salt Oxidation of Warminster, PA, has developed a proto-type of its waste-treatment reactor. The molten-salt reactor is being proposed as an alternative to the open incineration and detonation to treat explosive and rocket propellant waste from the site and other locations. The reactor uses a bed of molten-salt, usually Na2CO3, which provides the heat for the oxidation and to capture soot, char, metals and inorganic compounds in the wastes stream. Molten Salt said that it shipped the prototype to the US Naval Surface Warfare Center for evaluation.

New frontiers for ion exchange

Article Abstract:

Chemical process industries have developed innovative ion exchange materials and systems that can handle more difficult process streams such as heavy metals and radioactive materials. The development of new ion exchange resins is driven by the need for selectivity, specifically for dilute and hard-to-treat waste streams. Among the companies in the frontier of ion-exchange development are Purolute Ltd, Calgon Carbon Corp, ACM Services Co and Bayer AG.

Electronics chemicals suppliers fine-tune onsite service

Article Abstract:

Chemical suppliers to the electronics industry are providing everything their customer needs, even to the point of establishing onsite operations. These onsite arrangements have resulted in a situation where vendors do not only supply chemicals, but also metallizing agents, vacuum, monitoring and filling equipment, simulation software and turnkey plant designs. These expanded offerings are critical in today's semiconductor industry in which intimate knowledge of manufacturing processes dictate that vendors work with manufacturers from the blueprint or planning phase.
