Fast methods make many products

Article Abstract:

Stereolithography (SLA) is the main method of prototyping and it has been used in the manufacture of human titanium implants and models, such as skulls. Surgeons use the models to practice new operations before carrying them out on patients. Rubber moulds can be made from the SLA models and the moulds are then used to produce wax preforms. This technique was used in the production of the Triumph Daytona super bike. Rubber moulds can also be used to vacuum cast polyurethane and other plastic materials. Details are given.

Light matched to fast response servo

Article Abstract:

Light energy can be converted into usable pressure signals matching light from an optical fibre to a fluidic amplifier. Light is modulated at a fixed frequency, changed to electrical signals and then changed back to mechanical motion via a piezoelectric stack. Applications include fly by light systems for aircraft, inkjet printers, vehicles and surgery.
