Focus on accuracy in data-acquisition systems

Article Abstract:

Users of data acquisition equipment point to data accuracy and integrity as the essential aspect of their systems. Unfortunately, they do not have a clear grasp of accuracy, due mainly to the many ways that accuracy can be tested. A common mistake is their equation of accuracy with resolution in digital instruments. They should know that accuracy is an expression reflecting the difference between an indicated value and an accepted standard, whereas resolution is the incremental input signal producing the smallest distinguishable reading or output.
