Eastman's polymer laboratory capacity grows 200%

Article Abstract:

Automated viscometers and XP robots have brought a number of benefits to Eastman Chemical Co.'s Tennessee Eastman Polymers Div. Its vicosity laboratory's capacity increased by 200%, allowing a 25% reduction in staff. The new equipment have also allowed the immediate generation of information for the manufacturing unit, while enhancing reliability due to increased stocks of certain parts. It has also improved safety owing to minimized handling of hazardous solvents.

Take advantage of internal audits

Article Abstract:

Manufacturing firms can improve their external audit performance by using internal audits to identify and correct problems that external auditors would otherwise report. Communication with concerned parties in production can minimize production problems and noncompliance so that external audits are productive. Audits can be facilitated by exposing erroneous activities and exposure, in turn, can facilitate in correction.

Universal Instruments reaches out to customers, suppliers

Article Abstract:

Universal Instruments Corp. has launched into an open communication campaign with its customers and vendors when it realized its customers were not aware of quality terminology. One way to build awareness is to visit customers and make a presentation. A second method is by providing a Machine Performance Certificate from the Quality Acceptance Test.
