Transducer makes for easy listening

Article Abstract:

Topexpress Ltd. has developed a new technology which will permit the production of cheaper microphones and flat panel loudspeakers. The acoustic transducer technology uses a piezoelectric plastic PVDF sandwiched between a conductive layer at the front and a resistive layer at the back. These materials work together to give a very short time constant at the centre, where there is a high frequency response, and a large time constant at the edge, where there is a high frequency response. This action makes the transducer behave like both small and large units and eliminates the need to have both.

Drums roll lowest cost composites

Article Abstract:

New production techniques now mean that composites and fibre reinforced pre-pregs can be made at lower cost. A single layer of fibre wound onto a drum is cheaper to set up than continuous web techniques for making pre-pregs. Composites can be made by taking fibre-reinforced thermoplastic sheet and hot rolling it onto cellular reinforcement.
