Follow the good practice code: join our campaign for a better construction industry

Article Abstract:

Electrical contractors are well aware of Dutch auctioning, multiple round tendering and bid peddling, still undertaken by main contractors, despite Sir Michael Latham's review of the construction industry three years ago. His review saw legislation is the main vehicle for change, and The Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act, was a good start on the way to improved payment practices. The Constructors Liaison Group has set up an initiative to monitor compliance with the Construction Industry Board's codes and government legislation.

Garden of Egan

Article Abstract:

The UK construction industry is expected to reduce defects by 20%, improve finishing times by 20%, increase productivity by 10% and cut the number of accidents by 20% after the Construction Task Force (CTF) completed its review of the industry in the summer of 1998. The CTF chairman Sir John Egan believes low investment, limited training and inadequate research has led to a high level of customer dissatisfaction with the industry. The changes imposed on the industry will secure future growth and jobs.
