Article Abstract:

Streatham ice rink in south London has undergone a 2.5 million pounds sterling facelift and the 1930's building has been restored to its former glory. The contract for mechanical and electrical work was given to the How Group and was worth between 600,000 pounds sterling and 700,000 pounds sterling. The work has centred on restoring the stunning art deco ceiling in the main hall which was previously hidden by a lighting rig. The new scheme takes advantage of natural light and a new lighting and acoustic system has been installed.

Explosive issues

Article Abstract:

Some filling station forecourt consultants in the UK believe that electrical contractors are undertaking work which is of poor quality and potentially extremely dangerous. Petrol stations are inspected every year and have to obtain a certificate which approves their electrical work, but they are not obliged to undertake an independent inspection. Even using a company approved by the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting does not guarantee that the electrical installation will be of a high standard.
