Getting in step breaks all barriers

Article Abstract:

Siemens Automation and Drives have developed a network that can synchronize more than 100 axes within less than a millisecond and with a jitter of less than one microsecond based on Ethernet technology. The company is confident of doing well in the market despite their venturing into uncharted territory and they are also planning improvement in technologies by 2005.

Cold power heats up for commercialisation

Article Abstract:

The world's first large, commercial design of high temperature superconducting generator is being run on its test bed. Siemens currently has a 4MVA generator running on a long-term test with weight and size 20 and 30 percent less than that of convectional machines and efficiency around 2% higher and overload capacity enhanced several times over convectional design.

Composite valves cut weight and costs

Article Abstract:

Marotta controls manufactures valves for offshore and marine applications from composites that ensures corrosion resistance. Such valves weigh one third to one-half the weight of valves, using traditional materials and lifetime costs are likely to be reduced by 15% to 20% compared with those made from traditional materials.
