Getting it all together

Article Abstract:

Computer companies have acknowledged the difficulties of transferring information between different computer and software systems. Most representatives at the Open Systems show were unable to provde such a facility. However, some companies have managed to integrate information. BP Exploration accesses data of other oil companies using Sybase software. Texas Instruments is also working on an Mwave system with home entertainment and engineering applications.

The real cost of innovation

Article Abstract:

Phillip Denne, one of Britain's most successful engineering innovators and designers, believes that the key to successful inventions is the marriage of finance and innovation. He also believes that most successful inventions are produced by small-to-medium enterprises, which are not stifled by the resistance to change in large companies, or the lack of money experienced by lone inventors.

Keeping it all together

Article Abstract:

There are many ways in which nuts and bolts can loosen, including expansion of the bolt, the washer becoming smooth and too much surface pressure at the bolt's bearing surface. Some commonly used techniques for preventing nuts and bolts from coming undone are compared and contrasted.
