Global expansion: a growing dilemma

Article Abstract:

Certain recommendations are given to engineering firms that are considering the prospect of international strategy in an attempt to adapt to the fast- changing business environment. Firms are urged to study their markets and partners beforehand, seek government aid, get early legal and tax advice, think long-term and get clear written agreements with agents. The International Federation of Consulting Engineers is likewise suggested, as they produce internationally-used contract documents which ensure fairness for both clients and engineering firms.

Building a consensus: how tos and how not tos

Article Abstract:

Consensus building is a major factor for the success of engineering firms, since it determines public support for a proposed technical solution. Unfortunately, consensus building often fails due to attempts to make the process too complicated. Five straightforward steps can be followed to make the process simple, namely, fully grasping the idea, planning the process, developing an awareness, educating the target group and obtaining a buy-in by the target groups.

Bagging our baggage

Article Abstract:

The engineering sector should be prepared to meet the challenges posed by the new global economy. They should be aware of the paradigm shift in commerce, which is the shift from industrialization to global information services. The engineering sector will have to end its practice of command and control management and focus instead on service. Although such a task will be hard, it will lead to greater trust, partnerships with clients and improved products.
