Human resources strategies for successful consulting engineering firms

Article Abstract:

Patricia A. Hecker, in an article on trends in the engineering service, made an incomplete suggestion that continuing education and performance-based pay are the solutions for firms to be responsive and adaptive to their changing environment. Education alone is insufficient in improving the skills and the depth of the profession. It should be accompanied by routine application and investment of time and energy in preparation to perform and produce. Likewise, rewards for performance can be more of a liability because of the absence of definitive measure of effectiveness.

He trains employees while overseeing the design and plan preparations associated with construction. He also outsources project contracts to meet deadlines and to establish a working relationship with other contractors.

Practitioners in classroom: viable tool in civil engineering education

Article Abstract:

The qualifications of engineering educators as 'experts' to improve the education system is questioned. Typically, engineers in education have no practical experience and no inclination or formal training in teaching. Practicing engineers can help bring about reform in engineeriAnother method of practitioner input into engineering education reform is through communication with student chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
