Hybrids: then and now
Article Abstract:
Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) can be built with existing technologies, are nonpolluting, have the same travel range as a conventional car and consume considerably lesser fuel. In technological respects they are same as pure electric vehicles (EV) with an extra downsized heat engine and a generator. The problem of the short range of pure electric vehicles (EV) is overcome by HEVs. Engine-generator combination is the substitute for the EV's battery system alone.

Photographer James Gritz was able to capture the beauty of Alaska's wildlife along its intracoastal waterways. Steller's sea lions, humpback whales and a humpback fluke were only some of the beautiful animals seen along the inside passage around Admiralty Island.
