Industry and academia continue to collaborate

Article Abstract:

The Earth and Environmental Engineering Department of Columbia University received a $600,000 grant from BASF Catalysis Research for graduate and post-doctoral research on green/sustainable technology using catalysts. The Dow Chemical Company subsidiary Union Carbide donated property and facilities for a research campus to West Virginia University. The scopes of the two projects are discussed in detail.

Singapore: an emerging leader in biomedical sciences

Article Abstract:

Biomedical sciences in Singapore is rapidly growing, with strong funding of research studies particularly the establishment of research center Biopolis. Biopolis houses six research institutes such as the Bioprocessing Technology Institute (BTI). The various research areas of BTI, such as in anmial cell technology, are discussed.

Controlling biomedical processes

Article Abstract:

Issues of biomedical engineering concerning blood glucose control via insulin delivery and automation of anesthesia are discussed. Challenges concerning anesthesia control involving modeling and identification, learning systems, signal processing and estimation and others are studied.
