Is the world ready for knowledge management?

Article Abstract:

The application of the principles of knowledge management would greatly improve a company's profits and market share. Information management is an important component of knowledge management systems and companies are advised to understand its basic components. An excellent model for information management is the Associated Press' global network. Employees who join this network are trained to write in a standardized fashion, thereby, maintaining the network's style of news reporting.

CE marking problem on the rise

Article Abstract:

Restaurant industry rubber hose maker Dormont Manufacturing Co. cannot sell its products throughout Europe despite receiving a CE Mark through the British Standards Institute. The certificate is supposed to be honored throughout the European Union but Dormont's certification has been rejected in France, the UK, Germany and the Netherlands. The company's problem has become the most widely publicized incident of a CE mark that has become a nontariff trade barrier.

Textile trade group offers standard involvement model

Article Abstract:

The American Textile Manufacturers Institute (ATMI) has developed a model to facilitate the involvement of small and medium firms in international standards development. The programme was set up in response to pressing demands in US industry and deals specifically with international standards organization technical committees. The ATMI is beginning to have more influence over international standards development.
