Keeping equipment healthy

Article Abstract:

Companies stand to gain better-cost control and productivity by switching over to predictive maintenance from the current reactive maintenance. The indirect costs to a company on maintenance could be as high as 15-40%. Software technology for automation in machine maintenance is being developed to help address the problem on time.

Money talks, but so do benefits

Article Abstract:

The median salary of chemical engineers in 2007 increased by 12.6% to $103,703 compared to $92,500 in 2005. P ension plans are being replaced with defined-contribution plans, mainly due to the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA). The changes Dow Chemical Co. made in its retirement program are also discussed.
