Long live the 13A plug!

Article Abstract:

The imposition of a universal standard for plugs and sockets in Europe would have numerous disadvantages and is opposed by both the National Consumer Council and UK accessory manufacturers. Despite calls for the introduction of a universal plug and socket standard, previous attempts to do so have failed to win sufficient support. CENELEC, the European standards making body, advises EC member countries simply to accept their different systems. Not only would a changeover to a universal plug and socket system be a huge and extremely costly undertaking, but safety could be compromised through incorrect wiring.

The long and short of it

Article Abstract:

Standard lengths of uPVC conduit in the United Kingdom will be changed from four metres to three metres in Feb. 1996, by the British Electrical Systems Association (BESA). Several advantages will result from this latest standard change: other cable management products, for example trunking, are cut to three metre lengths, making estimations easier to calculate and order; Four metre lengths are more difficult to transport and store.

Long waves dry quicker

Article Abstract:

Infrared rays only become heat when they are in contact with an object which is 'tuned' to the wavelength of the rays. Efficient heating of people in situations where it is not necessary to heat air can be achieved at a wavelength of between three and six microns. Ceramic heaters can produce these wavelengths and do not waste energy in production of light. They are robust and can produce output to input ratios of up to 96.6%.
