Low cost drives will come out in the wash

Article Abstract:

Yaskawa Electric is targeting its small AC inverters at the domestic appliances market. The compact VC Mini C inverters, costing from 100 pounds sterling to 230 pounds sterling, promise to become cheap enough to be incorporated into domestic washing machines if they are made in sufficient quantities. Yaskawa has more than 20% of Japan's inverter market, together with more that 30% of the AC servo drive markets and almost 50% of the DC sector.

Active fields cancel interference

Article Abstract:

UK company, Microvitec, has developed a new technique for reducing the effects of magnetic fields on computer monitors. The technique can be used on any electronic equipment which is affected by magnetic fields and it can also be used to prevent interference escaping from a room. The technique involves sensing unwanted magnetic fields and generating a neutralizing magnetic field around the computer monitor. Details of the process are given.

Double diff drives two-wheel steering

Article Abstract:

An innovative drive train which uses two individually operated differentials to allow flexibility of movement has been designed for small vehicle applications that require speed such as wheelchairs and robotic vehicles. One differential is used to move the vehicle backwards and forwards whilst the other one is used to obtain rotatory movements. The drive train design could be enhanced by the addition of a brake or equivalent technology.
