Mariners Hospital, a consumer/utility partnership

Article Abstract:

Florida Keys Electric Cooperative Association Inc (FKEC) has forged a deal with Mariners Hospital to develop a "shared" power system. Under the deal, the utility pays for and maintains two emergenct generators at the hospital capable of serving the entire hospital load during emergency conditions. The generators can export power back to FKEC during peak non- emergency load times. As a result, Mariners Hosptal gets the emergency power when it is need without a large upfront capital investment.

Andover Controls Corp has supplied the Marine Midla Arena in Buffalo, NY, with its Infinity Automation System. The building automation system (BAS) offers temperature and humidity control for the entire $127.5-million four-level sports facility. The BAS also controls other critical building systems such as smoke-control systems, carbon dioxide monitoring systems, voltage surges and power usage.
