Measurements are accurate to within a billionth of a second

Article Abstract:

An accurate measurement system to guide the Venus Express spacecraft into orbit insertion at the right speed has been developed. The measurement system - called Delta-DOR - is part of BAE Systems' Intermediate Frequency Modem System (IFMS) and ensures that the spacecraft is slowed down by exactly the right amount so that it enters Venus' orbit correctly and the system accuracy is reported to be better than a billionth of a second.
