Micro yaw sensor spreads light

Article Abstract:

Robert Bosch is developing a transducer which can accurately measure yaw, is small in size and will be relatively low-cost. It will be used to neutralize slewing in anti-lock braking systems and traction control systems, but could also enable the development of headlamp systems which adapt to situations. The process is based on vibrating masses mounted on a 7mm square silicon chip. The voltage required to maintain accelerometer sensor masses in position gives data which are used to indicate yaw rate of turning. It is expected that mass production will begin in mid 1998.

LED car lamps, patents and threats

Article Abstract:

A growing hazard on Britain's roads is the distracting stroboscopic LED rear lights found in some new cars, predicting a sharp increase in motorway. The designer's choice for LED lamp chopping frequency has no practical upper limit because of digital technology used which can be chopped to 1000 cycles per second with no adverse effect on performance or costs.
