Modular approach pleases end users: as consumer and commercial products become more hi-tech so must the fastening systems used

Article Abstract:

The fastening industry is diverse and Loctite has developed a modular system that could be used globally. The A line comprises 15 different units incorporating four types of reservoirs, four controllers, a UV flood lamp and controller. There have been efforts to increase weld productivity as arc welding is one of the most efficient ways of joining, and Cloos has developed a new double wire MAG welding process, achieving high deposition rates. Ciba Polymers has added new products to its 2000 adhesives range, to cover applications in composites, metals and plastics.

Scanner progresses plastic ID method

Article Abstract:

Together with Ford Motor Co., the University of Southampton has developed a new machine that will identify types of plastic. The patented plastics analyzer uses infrared spectroscopy to identify plastics by examining their surfaces. The equipment is being marketed by Intex Logistics and is currently being demonstrated throughout the UK. It is expected that the analyzer will be of great use in the plastics recycling and processing industries.
