NRC as Referee

Article Abstract:

As a result of the accident at Three Mile Island Unit 2, the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued reactor safety improvement recommendations in Nureq-0660. Specific criteria for improvement contained in Nureq-0737 include requirements in plant operational safety, siting and design, and emergency planning. The President's Reorganization Plan Number 1 of 1980 improved operations in the NRC. The Committee to Review Generic Requirements was established to guard against overcontrol of the industry by the NRC. France also reacted quickly to the Three Mile Island accident by improving reactor design and man-machine interfaces in certain areas. Tables list industry implementation of Nureq-0737 and percentage of Nureq-0737 items completed, by plant.

A breath of fresh air

Article Abstract:

Physical fitness centres and health clubs should provide users with a comfortable environment in which to work out, but a small number of users will invariably complain that the temperature is either too hot or too cold. Only staff should be able to adjust the controls, however. Gmys should have a temperature of 19 degrees Centigrade. The humidity and air levels in gyms should be kept fairly low so that skin can be cooled via the freely evaporating moisture. Temperature control in gyms is examined.
